Reflecting on Building Relationships

Here are some pictures of important relationships/partnerships in life:

My Fiancee

My family
Ohana- My best friends

These relationships are meaningful to me because all these people in my life have been my side and supported me through everything. My family is very close and is always spending time together. My group of friends has been together since we were in elementary school, my best friend since we were a baby and now we are planning weddings together. My fiancee and I have been together for 8 years and are getting married next year!

Some factors that contribute to maintaining relationships include:
  • happiness
  • loyalty
  • supportive
  • encouraging
  • strong communication
  • sharing the same interests and hobbies
  • spending time together

Some challenges to developing and maintaining relationships that I have learned from experience over time include having the time to spend with each other. Life can be busy and crazy at times so it is always important to allow time to spend with people who are close to you. There are other ways to stay in touch such as calling and talking on the phone to catch up. It still shows that you care and are invested in the relationship.

These experiences with relationships/partnerships, including my ability to be an active, reflective, contributor, impact my work as an effective early childhood professional because communication is key. It is essential to have good social skills to build relationships with all your students and their families.

  1. Jamie,
Congratulations on your engagement! It has already been over 8years since my husband and I said I do. Enjoy every moment of this time because it fly’s by so fast. To reiterate my quote which is, “Nurturing relationships provide an emotional refuge for children, fostering the development of a healthy sense of belonging, self-esteem, and well-being” (Weiss, Caspe, Lopez, 2006). I feel as though you have and had a great support system since day one. I’m glad that your support system has continued into adulthood. I too have the same support system who has shown me nothing but love and support my entire life. As an ECE I would like to be that support system to a child that may not have one or be the addition to a team that is already present. Either way this is a must in a child’s life in order to succeed in the future.

  2. Jamie,
You have such a large and great support system. Everyone in your life especially those amazing childhood friends are important. Those friends have been around during some significant times in your life with this being one as well. It is comforting to have long lasting supportive relationship when you are experiencing new chapters, some of which can be a bit of a challenge. Great post !

  3. Jamie let me first start off by saying congratulations on your engagment. The things you mentioned in your blog that contribute to maintaining a positive relationship are some things that I agree are the foundation of a positive and enriching relationship/partnership. Your foundation of positive relationships seems to be very enriching and encouraging. It is always good to build positive and encouraging relationships with people that help you to grow as a person. I enjoyed your blog thank you for sharing and good luck in all you do.
